Dolphins Use Timely Hits to Silence Shoemakers

Dolphins 4, Shoemakers 1

MANILA - Seung Jun Ha of Korea and Joseph Orillana combined on a three-hitter and Joel Binarao homered as the Cebu Dolphins silenced the Marikina Shoemakers, 4-1 at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium on Sunday.

Jerome Bacarisas, Jon De Ubago, and Jonash Ponce also had run-scoring singles for the Dolphins.

With the exception of Binarao's home run to open the fourth inning, the Dolphins scored all their runs with two outs.

Cebu opened the scoring off Marikina right-hander Randy De Leon in the second inning. Joseph Orillana stroked a two-out double and scored on Bacarisas' rbi-single. Emerson Atillano followed with another double, advancing Bacarisas to third. DeUbago's single made it 2-0.

The Dolphins added another run when Binarao led off the fourth inning with an opposite drive to right-centerfield.

The Shoemakers closed the gap to 3-1 in their half of the fourth when Carlo Banzon was hit by a pitch, stole second, and scored on Ruel Batuto's rbi-double to chase Dolphins starter Seung Jun. But it was all the Marikina offense could muster as Orillana came in relief, retired the next two batters and 17 of the last 18 to seal the win for the Dolphins.

Cebu pushed across the final run in the fifth when De Ubago reached on third baseman Matt Laurel's fielding error and two-outs later scored on Ponce's run-scoring single.

The left-handed Orillana tossed 5 2/3 scoreless innings of relief, gave up two hits, struck out six, and did not walk a batter to pick up the win.

De Leon went four innings, gave up three runs on five hits and took the loss. He struck out three and did not issue a free pass.
