The team owners and league officials of Baseball Philippines and Junior Baseball Philippines wish to express their profound concern and empathy to all who are suffering from the devastation brought about by typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng.
Among the participating teams of Baseball Philippines, one of the hardest hit by the storm and unexpected volume of rain was the City of Taguig, which continues to be submerged in waist-deep floodwaters. Three other community teams who participated in our Junior Baseball Philippines pilot series were severely damaged as well by Ondoy’s rigorous thunderstorm namely the Cities of Quezon and Marikina, while Cagayan was directly hit by the intensity of typhoon Pepeng. In total, four community team members in Baseball Philippines, particularly the cities of Manila, Taguig, Muntinlupa, and Batangas were in one way or another directly affected by Ondoy’s onslaught
In light of this recent spate of calamities, the team owners of Baseball Philippines and Junior Baseball Philippines have made a unified decision to postpone the start-up of Baseball Philippines Series VI and Junior Baseball Philippines Series II, and instead allocate and channel resource support to their various communities to help alleviate the effects of destruction caused by Ondoy and Pepeng.
We would, therefore, like to inform our baseball fans, league partners and the public that the calendar of Baseball Philippines Series VI and Junior Baseball Philippines Series II which was scheduled to start on the 24th of October will instead be postponed to March 2010.
Baseball Philippines and Junior Baseball Philippines was organized by a group of young, accomplished and committed leaders in their respective communities with the objective of re-introducing the game of baseball to the Filipinos as well as to re-establish a premier regional baseball league across the country. In this manner, sports and youth development were seen to be integral to the process of national development.
In the meantime, we will carry on with the preparations of Baseball Philippines Series VI and Junior Baseball Philippines Series II as we continue our committed efforts to take Baseball Philippines and Junior Baseball Philippines to a higher level of sports and youth development, recreation and entertainment.
We thank you for your kind understanding and continued support for the game of baseball in the country.
