Week 5 top performer: Isaac Bacarisas
Cebu coach Isaac Bacarisas became the unlikely hero in the Dolphins’ 6-4 win over the Manila Sharks in the May 20 afternoon match in the ongoing Series 9 competitions of Baseball Philippines.
Bacarisas came to the field to play and in his lone at-bat of the match, he pushed the go-ahead run in the eighth inning breaking a 4-4 tie. Herxel Fortunato singled and Joennard Pareja walked to set up the run-scoring hit for Bacarisas, who came in to the game as a pinch hitter for Ramil Magno.
Because of Bacarisas’ hit, Fortunato scored while Pareja advanced to third base with one out. Ram Casey Alipio made it a 6-4 game on his sacrifice fly scoring Pareja.
With the victory, the Dolphins joined the Dumaguete Uni-bikers on top of the standings with a 7-3 win-loss record. The Uni-bikers beat the Batangas Bulls, 4-3.
The Dolphins took a 4-0 lead midway in the fifth inning. But the Sharks went on to tie the match by scoring two runs each in the bottom of the fifth and the sixth.
Then, Bacarisas blasted that go-ahead hit to preserve the victory.
