Week 5 top performer: Arvin Plaza
With Dumaguete in danger of losing its hold of the top spot in the Series 9 standings, Arvin Plaza helped the Uni-bikers gain control to grab a 4-3 win over the Batangas Bulls in Week 5 action of the league.
Trailing 1-3 after the fifth inning, the Uni-bikers failed to score in the next two innings until they were able to catch a break.
After he walked, Lloyd Arago reached third base after Tsuyoshi Horibata doubled off Batangas hurler Andrew Mercardo in the eighth inning. With runners in scoring position and the Bulls replacing Mercado with SJ San Juan on the mound, Plaza drove in the game-tying run with an easy single scoring Arago and Horibata.
With momentum on their side, the Uni-bikers advanced the winning run on the top of the ninth inning. Felipe Remollo opened the side reaching first base on a catching error by the shortstop before he advanced to second base after Ferdinand Liguayan took first base on a throwing error. The Bulls loaded the base on a walk on Dio Remollo. Felipe Remollo scored on an Arago.
After the game, the Uni-bikers shared the lead in the team standings with the Cebu Dolphins with a 7-3 win-loss record and they have Plaza to thank for in making the victory possible.
